Barbaralee Diamonstein’s The Landmarks of New York is the first comprehensive reference book documenting all of New York’s designated landmark buildings, both exteriors and interiors, as well as scenic landmarks, in all of the five boroughs. Each of its more than 560 entries, covering over 800 buildings, includes a detailed description focusing on the architectural and historical significance of the site, illustrated by one or more newly commissioned photographs. There is also a section about the city’s historic districts that includes a description and map of each one. The landmarks are arranged chronologically, by date of construction, giving the reader an overview of the city’s changing architecture, and are indexed by name, by architect, and by type and function.
