Beschrijving boek
Twenty-five of South-east Asia’s top photographers spent a week in Brunei Darussalam in 1992 during the country’s colourful celebrations marking the Silver Jubilee of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan’s accession to the throne. They trekked into untouched, towering rain forest, travelled far upriver into the interior, visited historic Kampong Ayer, witnessed the complexities of the oil and gas industry, became immersed in the pageantry and spectacle of royal state occasions, stayed in people’s homes as honoured guests, and saw the beauty and diversity of the country’s mosques. In helicopters, undersea in scuba gear, and in narrow longboats they sought a new angle on Brunei Darussalam. Drawn from top magazines and photo agencies, the photographers came from all over the region - all the Asean countries, including four talented Bruneians, Japan, Turkey, Iran, Russia, Sri Lanka, China, India, and Hong Kong. Each were chosen for their specialized expertise. Four were from the prestigious photo agency Magnum and most regularly contribute to National Geographic, Stern, Time, Newsweek and other top international magazines.
The ambitious project was financed and co-ordinated by Brunei Shell to publish a top-class international book about Brunei Darussalam not only for visitors and the outside world but also as a proud record for Bruneians.
